Xamoudochori is een klein dorpje met een micro-klimaat en situeert zich ongeveer 19 km ten westen van Chania op een hoogte van 110 meter. De 150 vaste inwoners houden zich voornamelijk bezig met de teelt van olijfolie en wijngaarden. Het dorp biedt een prachtig uitzicht op de kustlijn en de Lefka Ori (witte bergen) in het zuiden en wordt omgeven door eindeloze olijfgaarden en wijngaarden. De centrale kerk van het dorp in Xamoudochori is de kerk van St. Ioannis Chrisostomos, die wordt gevierd op 13 november. Er zijn geen winkels in het dorp, maar het traditionele café in het centrum van Xamoudochori biedt lokale drankjes en traditionele Kretenzische tsikoudia (raki) aan.
Het dichtstbijzijnde strand en de winkels in Maleme liggen op ongeveer 3 km. In Maleme vindt men voorzieningen zoals geldautomaat, supermarkt (SYNKA) , apotheek, benzinestation, verbindingen met het lokale vervoer, restaurants en cafés. Men kan ook een wandelpad nemen tussen de olijfbomen, dit is een kortere weg van ongeveer 2km of 25 minuutjes afdalen. Hou er wel rekening mee dat de weg terug 5% gemiddelde stijgingsgraad heeft. Restaurants aan het strand, "Mythos" en "The Wave" zijn aanraders.
Tavronitis ligt op 4km en heeft alle voorzieningen...rustige stranden, restaurants, supermarkt, bakker, beenhouwer, verse vis en is tevens het ganse jaar open. Hier vind je restaurants "Anemomylos" en Almyrikia" aan het strand en "Kaneva" in het centrum. Vele restaurants hebben ook afhaal of levering service.
Kolymbari ligt 7km westwaards, winkels zijn er open tijdens de winterperiode en op vrijdag kan je naar de plaatselijke markt voor verse groeten (zijstraat op de weg naar de national road, naast het voetbalplein)
Platanias ligt op 10 minuten rijden en biedt tal van strandactiviteiten en een levendigere, meer kosmopolitische sfeer. In Platanias kan je allerlei watersporten beoefenen.
Het mooie Chania, hoofdstad van de perfectuur ligt op slechts 19km en de luchthaven is ongeveer 40 minuten met de auto. Toegang tot de National Road kan ofwel via Platanias ofwel Tavronitis.
Xamoudohori is een perfecte uitvalsbasis om West-Kreta, de stranden, archeologische vondsten en prachtige natuur te verkennen. Weg van de drukte van Platanias is het de perfecte plek om te ontspannen...
Xamoudochori is a small village with a micro-climate and is located about 19 km west of Chania and at an altitude of 110 meters. The 150 permanent inhabitants are mainly engaged in the cultivation of olive oill and vineyards. The village offers beautiful views of the coastline and the Lefka Ori (White Mountains) to the south and is surrounded by endless olive groves and vineyards. The nearest beach and shops in Maleme are about 3 km away. In Maleme you will find amenities such as ATM, supermarket, pharmacy, petrol station, local transport links, restaurants and cafes. One can also take a walking path between the olive trees, this is a shortcut of about 2 km or 25 minutes down. Keep in mind that the way back has an average gradient of 5%. Chania is only a 19 km and the airport is 40 minutes drive. There is easy access to the National Road either via intersections Platanias or Tavronitis.
